HISTORY

In the beginning, Unpad STP was known as KST Padjadjaran and was initiated in 2016 based on the Rector’s Decree of Universitas Padjadjaran No. 152/UN6.RKT/KP/2016 dated January 6, 2016, which regulated the establishment of the Science and Technology Park of Universitas Padjadjaran. The Master Plan for Unpad STP was then developed through focus group discussions (FGD) at the faculty, university, and Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education levels. To avoid misunderstandings about the concept of a park, the Science and Technology Park of Universitas Padjajaran was eventually renamed as the Padjadjaran Science and Technology Area (KST Padjadjaran) or Unpad STP. The Master Plan for Unpad STP 2016-2025 was completed in 2016.

Universitas Padjadjaran is the parent organization of Unpad STP and has full ownership of Unpad STP. Throughout its journey, Unpad STP has undergone several structural changes. Initially, Unpad STP functioned as an ad hoc team under the coordination of the Vice Rector for Research, Community Engagement, Innovation, and Academic Corporation. Then, on February 1, 2018, Unpad STP was transformed into a Center of Excellence according to the Rector’s Decree of Universitas Padjadjaran No. 93/UN6.RKT/Kep/HK/2018, which was further modified by the Rector’s Decree of Universitas Padjadjaran No. 628/UN6.RKT/Kep/HK/2018 dated August 1, 2018.

On February 18, 2019, the Center of Excellence of Unpad STP was transformed into the Office of Science and Technology Zone according to the Rector’s Decree of Universitas Padjadjaran No. 90/UN6.RKT/Kep/HK/2019 regarding the establishment of the Office of Science and Technology Zone of Universitas Padjadjaran. Furthermore, through the Rector’s Regulation of Universitas Padjadjaran No. 1 of 2020, which took effect on January 2, 2020, Unpad STP became a business unit at the directorate level under the authority of the Rector.

Until 2019, Unpad STP operated as a cost center with operational and development expenses funded by the parent institution and grants from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. However, starting from 2020 until the present, Unpad STP has been designed as a revenue center, where its operational and development costs are derived from self-generated income. In 2023, Unpad STP underwent revitalization, primarily focusing on strengthening commercialization and its governance structure.
