KST Unpad Conducts Benchmarking at Chiang Mai University Science Techno Park (CMU STeP)

Science and Technology Park Universitas Padjadjaran (KST Unpad) conducted a benchmarking activity at Chiang Mai University Science Techno Park (CMU STeP) on July 25-26, 2024. The purpose of this activity was to deepen understanding and gain valuable insights into the management and development of technology and innovation practices implemented at CMU STeP.
During the visit, the Unpad delegation, led by the Director of KST Unpad, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edy Sunardi, M.Sc, was warmly welcomed by the CMU STeP team. Both parties engaged in various discussions and presentations on technology development strategies, incubator management, and collaboration between academia and industry.
Prof. Edy Sunardi remarked, “This visit is extremely valuable for us to understand best practices in technology and innovation development. We hope to apply some of the strategies we have learned at KST Unpad to strengthen the innovation ecosystem at our campus.”
As part of the agenda, the Unpad delegation also had the opportunity to tour various research facilities and laboratories at CMU STeP, as well as meet with researchers and industry practitioners involved in technology development programs. This benchmarking activity is expected to strengthen cooperation between Unpad and Chiang Mai University and open opportunities for further collaboration in research and technology development.
The Portable PCR Team Clinches Champion Title at Tech Planter Indonesia 2024

The Portable PCR Development Team (Dr. rer. nat Savira Ekawardhani, M.Si and team) from Indonesia has successfully clinched the champion title at the prestigious Tech Planter Indonesia 2024 event, organized by Leave a Nest Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. This esteemed event took place on July 20, 2024, aiming to provide a platform for researchers and startups to showcase their innovative solutions in the fields of science and technology to address societal challenges.
TECH PLANTER in Indonesia began in 2018 to foster a supportive ecosystem for Deep Tech startups and researchers in Indonesia by discovering and nurturing entrepreneurs, promoting global collaboration, and providing resources for successful business development. The program focuses on innovative technological solutions to solve complex global issues and create positive social impact.
The Portable PCR Team, comprised of talented researchers, captured the attention of the judges with their innovation in biotechnology. Their success marks not only an achievement for themselves but also a significant milestone for technological advancement in Indonesia.
JICA Visit to Unpad Science Techno Park

Unpad STP proudly welcomed Mr. Naoto Morimoto from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) to the Unpad Science and Technology Park building. This visit is part of the close cooperation between Unpad STP and JICA in developing research and innovation infrastructure in Indonesia.
During the visit, Unpad took center stage as JICA delegates had the opportunity to directly observe the available facilities. They interacted with researchers and management staff who explained various ongoing innovative projects at Unpad.
Furthermore, the meeting between Unpad and JICA also discussed future plans to enhance collaboration in education and research, as well as strategies to expand access to cutting-edge technology for students and researchers at Unpad.
This visit not only strengthens the bilateral relationship between Unpad and JICA but also provides significant momentum in Unpad’s efforts to become a center of excellence in research and innovation in Indonesia.
KST Unpad Holds Technology Valuation, Testing, and Licensing Workshop for Innovation Commercialization

Universitas Padjadjaran Science Techno Park (Unpad STP) hosted a workshop on Technology Valuation, Testing, and Business Licensing at the Unpad Training Center, Bandung, on Thursday (11/7/2024). The event aimed to equip Unpad inventors with knowledge on technology valuation, testing, and licensing as crucial aspects of the research downstreaming process.
Several speakers participated in the event, including Yohanes Wahyu Prasojo, SH., MH from the Directorate General of KPAII, Ministry of Industry, serving as the Head of Business Policy and Licensing Team and Investment, and Ahdiar Romadoni, MBA from the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at ITB. Also participating as speakers were Prof. Sriwidodo, Prof. Ratu Safitri, and Riezki Amalia, Ph.D., experienced lecturers and researchers specializing in research downstreaming from Universitas Padjadjaran. The workshop was facilitated by KST Unpad’s management team, Dr. Budi Harsanto and Dr. Helitha Novianty Muchtar.

Unpad Science Techno Park (KST Unpad) Summit 2024 was held at the Mercure Bandung Nexa Supratman. The event began with a speech by the Director of the Science and Technology Park at Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edy Sunardi, M.Sc. In his speech, Prof. Edy Sunardi emphasized the importance of synergy between various sectors to create sustainable innovation. Unpad STP Summit also featured the Regional Secretary of West Java Province, Dr. Herman Suryatman, M.Si, as the keynote speaker with the theme “Collaboration of Education, Industry, and Government for Sustainable Innovation and National Competitiveness.” “That’s our spirit (West Java Provincial Government), and we need the role of higher education because the Science Technology Park, has combined knowledge with empirical data,” he said. The event featured several speakers, including the Director-General of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture Research and Technology, Dr. Adhi Indra Hermanu, ST, MT, MM, Dr. Arief Arianto Hidayat, M.Sc (BRIN), Dr. Ir. Hadi S. Cokrodimedjo, C.Eng., M.Phil (KADIN Jawa Barat), Muhammad Yusuf, Ph.D., and Riezki Amalia, Ph.D., as well as Unpad researchers who hold patents, and potential industry partners to collaborate in technology and innovation development. Manager of Innovation Business, Technology, and Expertise Development at KST Unpad, Budi Harsanto, Ph.D., said that the main challenge in innovation is delivery discoveries by inventors, to market so it can be enjoyed by the wider community. Less than 10% of patent discoveries successfully reached the market. Therefore, KST strives to connect research and industrial world through the Unpad STP Summit 2024. Unpad STP in collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) of West Java Province, held an initial discussion meeting for Incubation and Commercialization Program of 2024. The theme of “Innovation Transformation Towards Industrial Commercialization” was the primary focus, bringing together academics, government officials and industry players to formulate strategic steps in promoting industrial development through innovation and technology. In 2024, BRIN and Kadin Jabar will serve as Master Mentors at Unpad STP. Furthermore, the presence of BRIN and Kadin Jabar in this event sends a positive signal that the government and industrial sectors strongly support efforts to advance the innovation and technology ecosystem in Indonesia. By integrating resources and expertise from various parties, it is hoped that the outcomes of this event will lay a solid foundation for driving greater industrial transformation in the future.

Bappedalitbang Blitar invited Unpad STP on Monday, September 25, 2023, to be a speaker at the Workshop on Downstreaming Creativity, Innovation, and Technology. This event is a follow-up to the Blitar Regency Creativity, Innovation, and Technology Competition (KRENOTEK) 2023 held at Hotel Tiba in Jatinangor. Dr. Helitha Novianty and Budi Harsanto, Ph.D., represented Unpad STP as speakers. The workshop covered topics such as legal regulations and policies within the scope of Unpad STP, case studies on marketing products from KRENOTEK competition participants, and further discussions on the development plan for the Science and Technology Park in Blitar Regency. The Unpad STP team visited the Regional Development Planning Agency for Research and Development (Bappedalitbang) of Blitar Regency on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The visit, led by Dr. Helitha Novianty M, Manager of Unpad STP, aimed to further discuss the plan for creating the Master Plan for KST Blitar.
During the meeting, the Secretary/Head of Bappedalitbang Blitar discussed the wage differences between regions, the fluctuation in Koi production during the pandemic, and the importance of understanding the potential of less fertile but creative regions. Several production potentials in Blitar can be utilized for the development of products under the auspices of KST Blitar. Additionally, the Master Plan of KST Blitar will focus on the development of SMEs. The potential for gold and copper mining will also be explored, along with addressing issues in pineapple processing that need improvement.

In the meeting, the Director of Unpad STP, Prof. Edy Sunardi, hoped to gain ecosystem support from the Board of Trustees for community service and to enhance Unpad’s image. Meanwhile, the Chair of the Board of Trustees provided advice to clarify the business model with the vision and mission, activity cost analysis, and revenue source identification. During the visit, Brawijaya University plans to establish a Science and Technology Park under the university’s auspices. Dr. Turniningtyas hopes that Unpad STP can assist in the establishment process and share experiences in various events planned by Brawijaya University in the future.

The Workshop on Incubation and Commercialization of Unpad STP 2023 was held at Swiss-Belresort Dago Heritage with high enthusiasm from the participants, Dago, July 13, 2023.
The workshop aimed to provide training on Feasibility Studies for Innovative Product Businesses, TKDN and Technology Valuation Calculations, Soft Skill Improvement, Development of Innovative Product Business Models, Alternative Startup Funding, as well as Production Testing and Market & Commercialization Training. The workshop was attended by the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation of Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc., and the Vice Rector for Organization and Planning of Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Drs. Yanyan Mochamad Yani, MAIR., Ph.D. In their speeches, they fully supported the series of activities of Incubation and Downstreaming of Unpad STP 2023 to run successfully and lead inventors to meet their potential partners. This was further supported by the presence of representatives from Bank Mandiri, KADIN West Java, ASTPI, as well as representatives from BRIN as speakers at the workshop.

The Academic Senate and the Directorate of Innovation and Corporate Affairs of Universitas Padjadjaran organized the Unpad Innovation Product Exhibition on Saturday, June 3, 2023, to enliven the Full Plenary Session of the Academic Senate of State Legal Entities Higher Education Institutions (MSA-PTNBA).
Unpad STP participated in the event by opening booths showcasing innovation products from Unpad lecturers, such as Black Garlic, Heryaki, Lovita Yoghurt, Vitpad, MagEx, i-Blue, and C-Transport. On this occasion, the Rector of Unpad, Prof. Rina Indiastuti, also visited the booths at the exhibition.

The monitoring activity is attended by the Manager of Pertamina Hulu Rokan in Jatinangor on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

On May 9, 2023, a meeting was held between the management of Unpad STP and the Director of Innovation and Corporate Affairs of Unpad, Prof. Dr. Tomy Perdana, at the Unpad STP Building. The meeting was chaired by the Director of Unpad STP, Prof. Dr. Edy Sunardi, and his team. One of the main topics discussed in the meeting was the targets to be achieved by Unpad STP, including incubating 10 Innovative Products. Prof. Tomy expressed the readiness of the Directorate of Innovation and Corporate Affairs of Unpad to collaborate synergistically with Unpad STP in advancing the innovation commercialization process and other services at Unpad STP.
